composer WINs #8 & 9

I will be in Philadelphia this week attending Opera America's "Creative Resurgence" Opera Conference, thanks to the Presser Foundation. I'm excited to start the summer with road trips and new operas, since I will also be seeing Nico Muhly's Dark Sisters and Michael Ching's Slaying the Dragon while I'm at the conference. Wooooot.
Also, Opera America is going to comp my registration fee. (It wasn't cheap.)

This is a HUGE help: I will save a few hundred dollars. I know this isn't a WIN from a composer competition, but I always tell myself (and others) that ultimately we want to support ourselves by doing what we love to do, and it doesn't hurt to save money in the process.
And speaking of opera…

Hooray! After being rejected the first time, I'm now funded to write a part of my opera. Now I MUST WRITE MY OPERA: I have no excuses. (Question: How does one write music while traveling? I think this is something I have to do.)
