Downtown Cincinnati will finally get its streetcar! After some moronic politicking (where according to the Cincinnati Enquirer, citizens called the Cincinnati streetcar wasteful), Issue 48 was defeated and now construction has begun. Hooray!
I'm excited that the Cincinnati Streetcar will revitalize downtown and Over-the-Rhine,1 and I'm hopeful that there will be a sudden growth in streetcar art.
Although I'm not specifically speaking of visual street car art, I'm more thinking that streetcar locations would be the perfect venue for sound installations. Like, for example, Jim Holt's "Thru-Line," where musicians set up with their instrument at every subway platform (or streetcar stop) and continuously perform the prelude from Johann Sebastian Bach’s Cello Suite No. 1 in G major.
So, I'm now asking myself…what could I do? What could I do…
1. Yes, if you didn't know this already, Cincinnati was settled by Germans.
